Summer is here in full force, and it’s time we shared some coffee recipes to cool you off for the season! Read on for some summery coffee recipes that are the perfect way to beat the heat.
If you’ve followed our blog for any amount of time, you’re probably a pro at making cold brew by now. If not, here’s our blog all about cold brew. You’re going to need some cold brew on hand for these recipes.
Plus, good old fashioned cold brew is great to have on hand this time of year anyways.
In fact, the first thing we’re going to make is a co-ferment cold brew! This recipe is such a simple way to spice up your coffee routine: all you need to do is cold brew one of our famous co-fermented coffees!
Never made cold brew at home? Here is a quick recipe…
Make sure your coffee is ground at a coarse grind size; use filtered water; combine the grounds and filtered water in a container such as a pitcher or french press or large Tupperware tub. Let it steep at room temp— out on the kitchen counter is fine— for about twelve hours. A good ratio to start at is a 1:8 ratio coffee:water, but, just like all things specialty coffee, play around with that recipe until it’s the perfect ratio for your tastes. Once twelve hours have passed filter the grounds out, and the resulting liquid is your beautiful cold brew concentrate which you can cut with water, sparkling water, or even milk!
Next recipe? How about coffee slushies! Your guests are going to love these grown-up slushies, and they’re so easy to make. All you have to do is toss these ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth and slushy!
4 oz. cold brew concentrate
4 oz. milk of choice
1 oz. flavored or simple syrup (optional)
1 handful of ice cubes
This is another recipe that can be altered to your tastes. If you have a big blender, you can make a bigger batch; just scale the recipe up. Hosting a Fourth of July party? Toss in your alcohol of choice to make a frozen espresso martini.
Last but not least, we have to share some flavored syrup ideas for you to play around with in any of these recipes or simply to add to your favorite iced latte or cold brew.
Here’s what you do:
Weigh out equal parts cane sugar and water. 500g of each makes about a good-sized bottle of syrup, but you can scale it down if you don’t need much.
Boil the sugar and water. Stirring until it comes together and the sugar is dissolved. This happens fairly quickly.
Toss in a handful of fresh herbs or a half cup of fresh fruit or a combination of both! You can eyeball this and adjust the measurements to your taste preferences.
Stir; then, once it is combined, let simmer for a few minutes until the fruit is melted or the herbs are softened. Take the pan off the heat.
Let the syrup sit in the hot pan until it is cool to the touch. This should take at least an hour— you want the herbs to steep for at least 1-2 hours.
Strain and enjoy!
This is the perfect recipe to flex your creativity! Some flavor ideas are strawberry basil or lavender vanilla or blueberry maple, but let your imagination and taste preferences run wild. Once you’ve created your signature syrup, you can use it in iced lattes, cold brew, coffee slushies, cocktails, and more.
We hope these recipes help keep your summer caffeinated in the coolest way possible! Let us know what you think if you try them out!
