Iced Coffee Ideas
It’s time for some summer coffee inspiration! Let’s talk about some coffee recipes to keep you cool during the heat of summer.
Iced Coffee #1
One of the most refreshing ways to enjoy an iced coffee is as an espresso tonic or a coffee soda. These are so easy to make once you have the right ingredients, and they are sure to impress your guests if you’re hosting coffee-lovers!
All you need is this:
A tumbler or rocks glass full of ice
8 oz of sparkling water or tonic water (whatever style or brand you prefer)
2 oz of cold brew concentrate or one double shot of espresso
1 oz of simple syrup (more or less depending on preference, syrup is optional, play around with homemade flavors!)
an herb spring or a citrus wedge for garnish
All you do to assemble this is pour the sparkling water over the ice, add the syrup, slowly pour the coffee on top, and garnish! These drinks are so refreshing and beautiful! You can play around with fun combos like orange, lavender, or rosemary and lime.
Iced Coffee #2
One of the best ways to enjoy a single-origin pour-over when it’s hot out is to brew it using the flash-brew iced coffee method. You can read all about this method in our previous blog post. But here’s the TL;DR:
Follow your preferred pour over recipe, but substitute about 1/3 of the water for ice. Weigh out the ice into the vessel you’re brewing the pour over in so that the hot coffee immediately hits the ice as it falls down through the filter. This will give you perfectly flash-chilled iced coffee!
Here’s an example…
If you’re following our v60 recipe, use the same 21g of coffee grounds and the same temperature of hot water. But weigh out about 116g of ice into the container you’re brewing into. Remember, you’re going to be pouring less hot water because the ice counts as part of the water in the recipe (you’ll pour 234g vs. the normal 350g), so adjust your pour time accordingly. As you’ll still want your brew to take about 3 minutes, you will need to pour a bit more slowly.
And that’s it! Once the hot coffee has dripped down over the ice and flash chilled, you’ll have delicious iced specialty coffee! Add this brew method to your summer line up, and you’ll have another refreshing way to enjoy specialty coffee even on the hottest afternoons. Need beans to try this recipe on? Shop ours here.
Iced Coffee #3
A very fun iced coffee option to try this summer is a shakerato, basically a shaken espresso. This one is going to be sweet, creamy, and ice cold!
What you’ll need:
a cocktail shaker
ice
simple syrup (or flavored syrup)
cream
cold brew concentrate or espresso
To make this drink just fill the cocktail shaker about 2/3 full of ice. Add a 1:1 ratio of cold brew concentrate and cream. 4 oz of each makes a good-sized drink. Or add 4 oz of cream and a double espresso shot. Then add 1 oz of your fav. flavor syrup. (You can always add more if you like your coffee sweeter.) Put the lid on and shake, shake, shake! Shake until the cocktail shaker is really cold on the outside. Pour into a glass, making sure you pour out all the beautiful cold foam you made. Enjoy! This one does well with flavors like coconut, rosemary, lavender, and vanilla— anything that complements a hot day.
