Coffee Spotlight: Papua New Guinea A-Arkau Eastern Highlands
This week’s coffee spotlight is another staff favorite: Papua New Guinea A-Arkau Eastern Highlands.
We’re so excited to share a new washed coffee from Papua New Guinea with you all! It comes from an important co-op in PNG, and the A grade indicates that it is the highest quality of bean coming out of the country. we’ve roasted it to a lovely light roast to highlight the red apple, dried berries, and milk chocolate tasting notes.
Arkau Coffee which collects cherry and parchment in Obura-Wonenara district of the Eastern Highlands province, where much high-quality coffee is grown in Papua New Guinea. Primarily sourcing from the Tairora-Gadsup, Yellia and Lamari local-level government groups (LLGs), Arkau serves a vital role as a collector in transporting coffee from the remote, mountainous areas where they are grown and bringing them to market.
PNG's Eastern Highlands range in altitude between 1,700 and 2,000masl and are known for their cool temperatures which allows for a longer cherry maturation on the tree, which typically translates to the development of more complex flavour compounds in the final cup.
In short, this is a beautiful light-roast, washed, single-origin coffee from Papua New Guinea. The high quality of the beans— thanks to the standards of the co-op— results in a deliciously clean and delicate cup of coffee tasting of apples, dried berries, and milk chocolate.
