We have a new coffee that’s a Specialty Coffee classic: a washed Ethiopia Yirgacheffe!
Often cited as the birthplace of coffee, the reputation of Ethiopia Yirgacheffe coffee precedes itself! Many coffee nerds proclaim it as their favorite region, loving the berry-forward tasting notes. So we’re excited to go back to coffee’s roots and offer you a new washed Ethiopia from a co-op in Yirgacheffe!
This particular coffee comes from the Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperatives Union (YCFCU). The co-op is located in southern Ethiopia, and was founded in 2002 out of the need for fair and ethical trade among Ethiopian coffee farmers. It has grown from representing 13 to 23 member cooperatives which include more than 45,000 farms and 350,000 family members.
The YCFCU provides many benefits for its members from free advertising to directly connecting farms and customers to providing easy access to organic and fair trade certifications. We are proud to work with the YCFCU to source this coffee as seeking out producers who pay their employees living wages and working directly with farmers is one of our biggest values here at BonLife.
In the Yirgacheffee region over 62,000 hectares are dedicated to coffee, grown organically. Forest canopy, organic fertilizers, and a temperate climate produce a very high quality bean which is clearly reflected in the taste. Coffees from this region are sustainably produced and held to high standards at all levels of production. Coffees here are sstainably grown under the shade tree canopy that has been maintained indigenously by the Gedeo people for centuries. They are certified Fair Trade & Organic too!
Sourcing a washed coffee from this region highlights the tea-like quality of these coffees and provides clean and clear tasting notes.
