Coffee Spotlight: Our New Decaf!

We just sourced a new specialty decaf coffee from Sidama, Ethiopia! It’s grown by a producer we’ve used in the past and love: Daye Bensa. Let’s talk about it!

Daye Bensa, one of Ethiopia’s major coffee exporters, was founded by two brothers from the Bensa Sidama region. With over 20 years of experience now, Daye Bensa exports specialty coffee directly from farms around the country, facilitating new opportunities for small producers and fair wages.

Zambia washed coffee from direct trade top scoring coffee roaster BonLife.

This coffee is a natural processed Heirloom varietal; it was Ultra Violet Water Wash (UVVW) processed for a chemical and caffeine free cup. UVVW is a decaffeination process in which the beans are sent to a specialized facility to undergo a chemical-free process that uses only water and UV light to gently remove caffeine. This process preserves the coffee's inherent flavors and aromatics. The natural process provides a flavor foundation of sweetness and fruit-forward notes that survive decaffeination better than those of washed coffees. The result? A light-medium coffee that tastes like nutty toffee, apple, sweetness, and a hint of citrus; it’s decaf that doesn’t taste like decaf.

Yes, we do decaf! And it’s good!

Currently our decaf beans are sourced from the Sidama region of Ethiopia, from producer Daye Bensa. This coffee is a natural processed Heirloom varietal; it was Ultra Violet Water Wash (UVVW) processed for a chemical and caffeine free cup.

We roast our decaf to a light-medium so that it tastes great with milk or black!

We love working with producers like this who are growing high-quality specialty coffees, especially when it comes to decaf!
